Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines

by ONY · 2516

ONY repositioned the Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines as a monument to engineering ingenuity: not a place where exhibits are stored, but a space that explains, in an exciting way, how everything works. The positioning grew out of interviews with the team, visitor reviews and an analysis of museum archetypes.

The identity works like a composite device, assembled the way the machines are. Every layout stacks layers of typography, silicone dies, photographs of the machines and illustrations of their details, and the complexity can be dialed from pure type to rich compositions. Formular, the grotesque from Brownfox, carries a touch of engineering aesthetics, and the printed shades of the palette recall industrial materials.

The system carries into physical space and merchandise: slits in booklets, stickers inspired by machine parts and multi-layered navigation all reinforce the idea of looking inside. The result speaks not of nostalgia but of curiosity, a style that invites you to understand how the world works.
